Reading an interesting article during the week I was prompted to pick my top 5 myths in the health and fitness industry and speak a little more about them.
These 5 seem to always rise to the surface more often then not with clients and can be very misleading with the constant bombardment we get from social media on quick fix diets and new workout routines that will get you ripped in 10 days etc, it’s important to not lose the focus for why we train and eat well it’s for a prolonged life and happier healthier body and mind.
Over the next few weeks I will speak about these 5.
Myth 1.Lifting weights will make you big and bulky!
Myth 2. Steady state cardio is the best for burning fat!
Myth 3. Carbohydrates should be avoided!
Myth 4. Stomach exercises will get me a six pack the truth about fat around the midsection!
Myth 5. Eating fat will make me fat!
Starting with….
Myth 1.Lifting weights will make you big and bulky!
We often hear people say I’ve a slow metabolism and to be fair to most with a lack of training, poor nutrition and not enough sleep this can seriously effect your metabolic process, your engine, the rate at which your body burns calories.
Of all forms of exercise weight training correctly will boost metabolism more then any other.
Why do people believe it will make us big and bulky then?
I suppose it’s the stereotype of the gym bunny pumping his guns and screaming into the mirror that is still hard to get away from for most, weight training for the masses is still relatively new but the difference between an Arnold enthusiast and somebody just looking to improve tone and get lean would be the nutrition plan.
When somebody is bulking and looking to gain massive amounts of muscle there diet will reflect this they may be eating upwards of 3000 calories to increase size and training most days, if we contrast that with a female on a fat loss nutrition plan eating the right amount to ensure a deficit each week this is where the answer lies.
Nutrition is such a big part of your results weight training will turn your body into a high powered machine with the ability to burn more calories from fat then ever before accompanied with the right nutrition plan you will find yourself in the best shape of your life and due to the increased metabolism will find staying there a lot easier!
When clients approach us in Bodybyrne and many will be very limited for time and may only have 2 hours to train weekly in order to get this person the best results possible we will focus primarily on weight training and provide a nutrition plan to compliment this.
Our advice in Bodybyrne would be to forget about the stereotype and trust the people who are studying and constantly researching.
You will be pleasantly surprised with how the body responds!
