Contradictory what you may think – it’s the latter!! Potato is usually considered to be off the diet list for anyone trying to be strict. However, one needs to keep in mind potato is a VEGETABLE. So it’s really not as bad as we consider it to be. Once you bake/ steam/ grill/oven it – you’re fine! Usually its the french fries, chips, dauphinoise (cream, butter), mashed (eggs, cream, butter), or putting cream/ butter/ cheese on them that makes them bad.
Have a jacket potato with steak & salad – and you’re guaranteed to enjoy the meal whilst still keeping on a strict diet! A medium potato has only 0.2g fat, 4.3g protein, 37g carbs (of which only 1.7g sugar), 4.7g fiber (and even more if you eat the skin too!). It also will provide you with DA of 70% Vit C, 9% Iron, 30% Vit B 6, 12% Magnesium & 18% Fiber!
They are cheap, give you energy, vitamins and minerals, always available no matter what season & most importantly nice comfort food (without feeling the guilt eating them) in this colder weather to come! 😉
