The skinny on fats.
Myth: Eating Fat Makes You Fat… so if You Want to Lose Weight, You Need to Eat Less Fat
Fat is the stuff that is under our skin, making us look soft and puffy. Therefore it seems logical that eating fat would give us even more of it is this really the truth though!
This depends entirely on the context. Diets that are high in fat AND carbs can make you fat, but it’s not because of the fat. Both carbs and fats are used by the body as energy, carbs as a quicker released energy and fats as a more steady burning fuel.
The fattening effects of dietary fat depend entirely on the context. A diet that is high in fat but low in carbs can lead to more weight loss than a low-fat diet.
There is many reasons for this mainly though we tend to overeat on carbs a lot easier then fats due to the insulin response in the body and failing to burn off this instant energy source tends to lead to fat gain.
The balancing effects good fats such as coconut oil, avocado, nuts and seeds have on the hormones in your body as opposed to carbs which create an insulin response also tend to promote a state of fat burning in your body.
To conclude we should include some good fat sources at each meal and through the day to accompany a good source of carb and lean protein for a balanced meal.
Myth: Saturated Fats and Trans Fats are Similar… They’re The “Bad” Fats That we Need to Avoid
The mainstream health organizations often lump saturated and artificial trans fats in the same category… calling them the “bad” fats but is this really the case.
It is true that trans fats are harmful. They are linked to insulin resistance and metabolic problems and drastically raising the risk of heart disease.
However, saturated fat is harmless, so it makes absolutely no sense to group the two together.
My one example here is coconut oil this new wonder of the health industry that seems to be the answer to all questions at the minute is actually a saturated fat.
With an endless number of health benefits now associated with saturated fats we must get away from our fat phobia and embrace this new way of thinking and eating.
